Legal Counsel Leader - 14 to 24 years - Mumbai Location



Job Responsibilities

Main Purpose of Role:


  • Capgemini is seeking to recruit a Deputy General Counsel for India to work at the regional headquarters in Mumbai. The successful candidate will work closely with all levels of management and staff in India as well as with the legal team based out of global headquarters in Paris as well as with other General Counsels based in the various geographies in which Capgemini is present. The candidate will be assisted by 6-7 lawyers. The candidate will also act as Deputy Ethics & Compliance Officer for India.
  • The candidate will be a “hands-on” lawyer and will advise on a wide variety of IT and commercial issues and transactions, varying greatly in nature, complexity and value including a wide range of commercial agreements, HR issues, real estate and corporate law.
  • Applications are welcomed from Indian qualified lawyers with at least 14 years relevant experience (including IT industry experience), gained both in-house or in private practice, in drafting and negotiation of contracts. Experience in multinationals with matrix organization will be an added advantage. The candidate will also be responsible for the negotiation of other general IT and commercial agreements and to manage any litigation and disputes that may arise. Undergraduate studies from a pre-eminent law university in India, and graduate/post-graduate studies undertaken at a US/UK or foreign university (such as an LLM degree), and/or any International work experience will be preferred. Fluent English (written/verbal), communication skills are essential. 


Key Responsibilities:


The candidate will be required to work closely with the business and bid teams and to advise on management consultancy, technology and outsourcing contracts. The role will also involve providing ad hoc legal advice relating to the general operations of all Group companies in India, conducting due diligence activities, participating in client negotiations.  The successful candidate shall also take part in networking opportunities with peers, across the market, with clients and projects, and within the legal community in India. 


The successful candidate will work on all phases of deals, ranging from the proposal/bid review stages, right through to final negotiation and post signature issues. The following are the usual types of contracts that Capgemini Legal is requested to support:

Of equal importance, the role will require an investment in process management to identify and implement opportunities to improve the quality of legal advice and the impact of legal services offered in India and in the wider Group legal function.
